Hi guys, just acquired a really nice 1972 Barracuda, it is a factory (H51) AC car. Is there anyway of knowing how many AC cars were built? If nothing concrete, maybe a guestimate?

Welcome aboard. Very nice looker. More cars were built with a/c than not. One main reason is due to lack of ventilation (no vent windows) a lo of heat was generated in the car, much like a green house. Not much tinting done back then. But there were rear window louvers and a/c available as options. Unfortunately they were not very efficient and didn't do a lot to cool off. Modern systems use better fans and larger evaporators to help improve cooling.

Thanks, that really surprises me, as this is the first A/C one I have seen and I have seen quite a few. Maybe because we are in Canada and a lot of our cars were ordered for our cooler climate and/or sourced from northern states where maybe that option was not as popular? Same with the Challengers I have bought and sold, have yet to see a factory a/c one. Was it not roughly a 300.00+ option? I know it was 357.00 on a 70 Charger.Pretty expensive on a 3 to 4000.00 car!

No exact numbers but I have seen quite a few with A/C . I would guess closer to 50% Was about a 400$ option in 72. I'm sure it was a big seller in the hot states. Not so much in NY. I've owned one A/C car and it was from Texas

Very nice!
Liking the steel rims more and more, being painted body color works well!
