Got a call from my bodyman/painter and he’s fitting all the panels on my 73 Cuda before paint goes on. He attached the trunk lid and noticed that the right side sat way too high. The 1973’s have a single torsion spring and it’s jacking up the right side by about 2 inches just as the left side makes contact with the top of the trunk bumper. I went to see this and he’s right. Lots of pressure by the torsion spring being applied on the right side. So I backed the torsion spring to the first hole which is the lightest setting. This helped but now it sits about 1 inch too high.
Does anyone else have this issue? If you do, is this normal or if not can anyone tell me what’s happening here? I can’t add another torsion spring to even out the tension because it’s not set up for that. There are no other holes drilled in the opposite side for adjustment purposes. The square “bushing” the hinge rides on is in place. It’s in good shape and doesn’t seem to be the problem. No slop in the hinge’s. Were stumped.
