I would still use a cam Other than Comp or Melling , Voodoo series work extremely well in Mopar . Get a Double roller timing chain
If you use the stock 318 heads I would open the port to 340/360 size the smooth flow from the larger intake ports in the manifold into the smaller head ports
Lots of Carb choices in the 500-600 range , but the 1406 is one of the worst .
Get a new Melling oil Pump .
The best factory heads were the 86-92 302 or 308 swirl castings , Pre Magnum engines , they will make more power than the 340 X or J heads .
Install a windage tray , probably good for 15 HP
