I thought I understood the casting #s but depending where I look online, the more I’m confused.
Driver side block: 4006830-360-6
Driver side below head: W360116261
Passenger side: 6

I get July 72, 1976, then depending which chart: 1971-1989, 1976-1980, 1971-1974, and. 1975-1993.

Not extremely important, just trying to narrow it down so I can order the correct oil pan, gaskets, oil filters, headers, etc.

Thank you in advance

Block Casting number 4006830 is a 360 used 1976 - 1980.

The listed engine number stamped below the left head, "W360116261" is incomplete. If not a typographical omission, the number might be mis-stamped, or lightly stamped or otherwise marred. The listed number denotes a 360 built at the Windsor, Canada plant. A leading model year number should precede the "W" and there should be eight digits following the "360". Engine build date is indeterminate from the listed numbers.

Symbolic example: 6W360MMDDXXXX, where 6=1976 model year, MM=month of build, DD=day of build, XXXX=the XXXXth engine built that day at that plant. Other numbers indicating oversize/undersize internal components or other select details can also be present

The block casting date is on the passenger side toward the upper front near the engine mount.

Thnx M8, I’ll try and get it on a lift for better access. Car sits low, was hard to get to with headers in the way

8-25-78 question solved. With the heads though, there is a marred circle preceding the “W”, and the two digits mentioned are not there or ground smooth? Not to important at the moment

Thanx again for the assist, I at least know the year now - eventually want to swap to a 440

440 swap is always good for more fun and less fuel milage! 😁

Keep in mind, you'll need a transmission and drive line swap as well if you have a 904 automatic now. Plus is you have an 8 1/4 rear, it won't hold up long under a 440! If you're lucky and have a 727 and 8 3/4 rear, you'll just need a big block 727 and 440!
