I just bought this 71 cuda 383 4 speed pistol grip and the previous owner had some work done on 2nd gear. So tranny has been out, Reverse is almost impossible to get into. You really have to work to get over and up into reverse. don't know if shifter issue or Tranny issue any Ideas.

A: Get the previous owner to fix it. B: Find someone locally, transmission shop, preferably a Mopar fluent shop. No way to diagnose a problem that we can't see, and that has had unknown mods done to it.

well the easy fix is to make sure all of the shift rods are adjusted so the levers are in line so the shifter can easily slide from reverse over to 3-4 , if the shifter is not smooth either the rods are poorly adjusted or the grease in the shifter is so hard the shifter in not moving well , so you can disassemble the shifter clean it & re-grease it too , if it is tough to shift into reverse with the sifter disconnected while turning the driveshaft the problem is likely internal
