70 challenger dash pad emblem

I have a question about my dash emblem. Does anyone know why on my original plum crazy purple challenger my dash emblem is purple?

Previous owner painted it ?

It should be chrome, but on most cars the chrome wore off and showed black.

that is what I thought but this looks like purple injected plastic

Mine was also purple, if someone painted it they did a spectacular job. It is now black. Just dyed it and was not going to try and remove it and ruin a 1K pad.
