Could I ask who's 727 can handle 2K HP ? All the g'box builders I spoke to told me 1000lb/ft (1200 ish H/P) was about the limit for an all out 727.I am literally on the verge of building a TH400. Not because my 727 cant handle 2k hp but because there is no aftermarket case for it AND no one makes a torque converter that can handle the power, but that might change as well. I am in the worls on that one right now with Dice performance.
John, thank you bringing these bell housing/cases to our attention. Like you said, they look extremely beefy! I will be following to see how everything fits up internally.
Tig and Wingcarenvy, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most catastrophic stock 727 cases fell due to lack of rigidity bell housing to case transition area? These new cases may be able to handle the additional stress behind a 1700-2000hp engine. Would definitely need a stout aftermarket torque converter!
For crazy guys like me who want to put a 518 transmission behind a sub 1000hp 440 or 500 stroker, this could be just the ticket!!
Indeed, there's a certain amount of kudos keeping stuff "All Mopar" but it's getting more difficultThanks Tig. I think a lot of us are going to at least keep an eye on these housings.
It was built by Protrans in Texas. They have been doing my trans forever. This 727 has a solid 300 laps on it with no failures. I have been 182 mph in the quarter at 3500 pounds. I know I am not the only one either. So much hate on the internet about the 727 when it really is the BEST design out there. Its bigger and badder than the 400 by a lot.Could I ask who's 727 can handle 2K HP ? All the g'box builders I spoke to told me 1000lb/ft (1200 ish H/P) was about the limit for an all out 727.
We'll be around 1700hp with N2O so this would be a better option cost wise than going to an aftermarket case or th400 type.
EDIT: A bit more searching shows there are folk running a stock case 727 with over 1500hp BUT they are few and far between.
Yes. Its a theory that by cutting off the bell and bolting a stronger bell in its place the weak link becomes the case at the oil pump bolts. Thats why I run a stock bell. By the way everyone says the torqueflite bell is small hasn't seen a 12” big car converter. I am prepping now to convert the front pump to TH400 and use a custom input shaft to run a TH400 bolt together torque converter to help with my converter slip.John, thank you bringing these bell housing/cases to our attention.
