When Insta\nLling the front half of the carpet.. How do I know where the rubber mat under the brake pedal and gas pedal goes.. There is a cutout in the jute , backing where the dimmer switch hole is supposed to go.. Just not sure of the placement of the rubber mat with the carpet.. Thanks pictures would be helpful if possible

A picture of that area, with the mat under your brake pedal, might answer lots of questions we may have.

I recommend you install the rear half of carpet, first, and overlay the front on top of the rear (where they overlap)

If you have a reference point for the high beam switch in the carpet, I recommend you work from that. Once the carpet is anchored (more or less) at the high beam switch, laying the carpet across over the hump to the passenger side, keeping it even, it will become clear and intuitive where the placement should be.

Because these carpet kits are aftermarket, the precise placement of the mat area will vary. But my intuition is the mat is centered, left-to-right, in the driver side well where the feet go. Forward to back placement will depend where the carpet falls after you set it on the high-beam switch.

Here are a few pictures of what I have so far..there is a square cut out in the jute backing in the position for a 4 speed...I was told that the 4 speed and automatic carpet was the same....in the years 70-74

So, this is from my original order.I was under the assumption. This was for a 70 through 73.As you can see under it, says track, but turns out it is\nNot it's for a seventy only.. The 71 through 73 is backorderd.Until october

4 speed and automatic cars use a different front carpet, the 4 speed carpet is molded to fit over the 4 speed hump. 70 uses a different rear carpet than the 71-74 cars, 70 had the front seatbelt retractors underneath the back carpet and the 71-74 cars didn't.

I agree with pschlosser, cut out the opening for the dimmer switch and install the carpet over the switch and work from there, trying to get the back edge straight across from one side to the other.

It is the wrong carpet, evidently the part numbers different and they're on back order until October. So I ordered the correct one from somebody else.

Auto Classic Carpets (ACC) are said to be the leading maker of carpet kits. I think, but unconfirmed, the kit Legendary Auto Interiors sell is an ACC kit. $200 price range.

Thanks for all the replies.. I guess a person needs to call and check what they are buying rather than relying on what is said on the internet..lol
