I was reading a post from someone that said that the rear axle ratio tags were not routinely put on to one of the nuts on the rear pumpkin pretty much after 1969. Not sure how true that is?
I've owned a number of 70-71 e-bodies over the years always remember seeing a tag on most of the cars.
My 70 A66 has the 3:55 posi sure grip unit and a tag to match.
I also removed the 3:23 tag from my old, red Challenger RT SE 440 at the time and just now found it.
Were these tags uncommon? Not a monumental question, just curious.

My 'Cuda built on June 15,1970 doesn't have a tag. # matching car, don't believe it would've been removed, it's possible.

My old 70 Cuda, actually built in 69, did not have one, Nor does my 71 Challenger. The Cuda was a Los Angeles built car and the Challenger is from Hamtramck. Maybe some plants used them later due to stock on hand...

At some point between 69 to 71 they changed from the tag to paint stripes to identify the ratio.. is there any paint left on your diff?

Here is a reference chart and example; Thanks Leo. I wonder if they made the switch at the same time they went to an orange daub instead of a metal tag for the Sure-Grip.

Great information. Thank you
There were a lot of orange inspection marks on my front end
Need to get to the rear for a clean up to see for any paint daubs
My did come with the 3:55 metal tag.
Would they have put both on the rear axle?
Mine was an early October 1969 build.

Somethings wrong here car 340 4 barrel A66 I have not got the build sheet to verify. The car was restored in 2002 by Bill Allphin mopar judge in Cincinatti the tag on the picture before restore is 3.23 with blue / yellow that should make it a 2.94 i guess the pumpkin could have been changed but i thought 340 with 4 barrel were all 3.23 standard

1971 might be the same; my 71 was a 340, 4 spd car and came with 323's with Sure-Grip
