Getting to assembly my 440 and thought I had a 402 pan. Turns out I have a 971 and 933. Will the 971 work on Ebody? I have a skid plate on my k frame.
TIA
We get a lot of questions about oil pans. For most passenger car swaps the basic answer is: you need a low-profile, center-sump style oil pan, standard on most passenger cars. This means that if you are taking the donor engine from a truck, van, or motor home, you can't use the oil pan. Below...
Wow! That will be very helpful. When I get in the house I’ll actually compare the two pans because I know the 402 is used quite often. At first class it looks like the 971 should work.

going thru the same problem now ! i have a 971 pan and need a part numbers or source for the correct pickup tube …i’m converting from a truck oil pan with different pick up tube ,
I know they're not stamped with the factory numbers, but 440 Sources 6 quart pans and pickups are so inexpensive, why bother with anything else unless it's all numbers matching show car?
I believe the 971 pan is a 5 quart pan, that will work in both B and E bodies.
@hdwrench And if you're planning to rev it over 5K, a windage tray and that extra quart on the aftermarket (440 source) six-quart pan (with matching pickup) may be a better option.
