BB head gaskets

what is the reason for just the thin slot vs opening it up to a hole the size in the block on the water passages on the head gaskets? will opening it up help or hurt waterflow and cooling?

I have Felpro 1009 and a metal gasket with the thin slot. I no longer run a B motor or even have one since I converted to a Gen 2 Hemi.

It forces the water all the way to the rear of the heads otherwise too much water would return before reaching the rear fo the heads
