The parts you describe are the positioners, not the anti-rattle springs (clips).

The positioners retain the caliper guide pin, or caliper housing bolt, inner bushing in the caliper. Two types of positioners were used between 1969 and 1972 (B-body and C-body only in 1969).

The following image shows the 1969 - 1970 positioners, part numbers 2944722 and 2944723:

The 1970 positioners have a raised area around the hole.

The following image shows the 1971 - 1972 positioners, part numbers 3461770 and 3461771:

The 1971 - 1972 positioners do not have the raised area around the hole. This style is also what was, and is, available as most aftermarket or reproduction parts. The later style can substitute for the earlier style.

The caliper guide pin and rubber bushing was revised in 1973 for the pin type calipers with a shorter shoulder, a different double lip bushing, and elimination of the positioner. The double lip bushing prevents it backing out if no positioner is in place. In the new design, Chrysler also replaced the outer brake pad with a thinner version (brake pad package, including double lip bushings, Chrysler number 3744450).

Chrysler Technical service Bulletins (TSBs), numbers 05-04-73C and 05-04-73D, were released for some mixing of the 1972 and 1973 pins and bushings on late 1972 and early 1973 C-bodies, D-bodies, and E-bodies, and service treatment.

The positioners were also used in 1971 - 1975 American Motors applications.

The following images show the 1969 - 1972 original type single lip bushing with the metal cap, and aftermarket version of the single lip bushing and a 1973 and later double lip bushing:

The following image shows the difference between the long shoulder and short shoulder pins:
Caliper_pins_compared.jpg

The long shoulder is 1-17/32" long and the short shoulder is 1-5/32" long. The remainder of the pin and the threads are the same.

Two versions of the longer caliper guide pin for B-bodies and E-bodies were used, part number 2944719 in 1969 through March 1971 and part number 3621960 after March 1971. The head design changed, but the remainder of the pin is the same, and the pins interchange. The following image shows the two versions, with 2944719 on top:
PXL_20260418_173845448.jpg

NOTE: C-bodies used a different pin, part number 2925208.

The later bushing and shorter pin can be used in the earlier calipers, and the positioner is not used in this case. Running the later pin and bushing as replacement for the earlier setup is acceptable and a customary service replacement. The earlier pin can be also re-used without the positioner if the later style rubber bushing is used. The double lip bushing must be used if positioners are not installed.

Applications that originally used the different long shoulder caliper guide pins with the positioner are as follows:
  • Late 1969 - 1972 B-body
  • Late 1969 - 1972 C-body
  • 1970 - 1972 E-body
The common aftermarket base number for this earlier pin is 5005, including Raybestos 5005, EIS 5005, Niehoff NH5005-2, Carlson H5005/H5005-2, and Wagner F76078S.

The aftermarket numbers for the positioners (sold as pairs) include Lee/Gibson 5106, Raybestos 5106, EIS H5106, and Bendix H5106-2. Positioners were also available in old kits including Lee/Gibson 5509, Raybestos 5509, EIS H5509, and Bendix H5509.

Applications that originally used the short shoulder caliper guide pins without positoners are as follows:
  • 1973 - 1978 B-body
  • 1973 - 1974 E-body
  • 1973 C-body
  • 1973 D-body
The common aftermarket base number for this pin is 5017, including Raybestos 5017, EIS 5017, Niehoff NH5017-2, Carlson H5017/H5017-2, Lee/Gibson 5017, and Wagner F76077S.

The following image shows the anti-rattle springs, or clips:

Many of the older aftermarket positioner replacements are discontinued but might still be found. Some reproduction sources carry the later style positioner including the following (note that their application listing might not show all):

- Mancini Racing: Caliper Pin Positioner Kit
- Brewer's: Caliper Pin Positioner Kit
- Hoover Auto Parts: Caliper Pin Positoner Kit
- Herb's Parts: Caliper Pin Positoner Kit
