Cragar SS center caps

I guess my cap flew off somewhere , sometime , anyone know what this loose piece is and what it does.

The loose part in the center of the pictured wheel is the back plate that secures the center cap to the wheel.

The cap is fitted from the front, and the plate from the rear. The offset hole in the plate aligns with the peg on the back side of the center cap. A screw installs in the center hole and is tightened to secure the cap by wedging the plate in the center opening of the wheel.

The following image shows the plate on a center cap with the screw:
