CRANKCASE BREATHER?

Is the black thingy on the valve cover the crankcase breather? if so or not, is it a filter of some sort that I should change out? I can't seem to find what the part is and if there is a replacement for it.

Yes it is a breather, it has some mesh inside it to trap oil particles. The oil mist is supposed to be pulled back into the engine via the hose.

Why don't you jut download a Factory Service Manual. You can look up all the systems on your car. The first section is maintenance.

I just wash it out with solvent & reuse it , it doesn't deteriorate inside

In the FSM for 1970 Section 0 page 15 shows the crankcase filter maintenance procedure. Read the whole section. Lots of tips.
