Nut side down with the clamps level.

As to rumblefish's question, I dont know yet. Car is 60 miles away from home in my old shop. They are smaller in diameter and length than the originals I took off. So are the resonators. I will look this weekend and get back. Thank you moparleo for your answer.

New mufflers from Accurate exhaust are 18 1/8" long by 6 1/4" diameter.
Old mufflers are 21" long and 7" in diameter.
Resonators are 12 1/4" long X8 1/4 wide X 3 3/4 tall.
It did not have resonators on it when I bought it. Hooker Ceramic headers and a crossover tube i put on it around 1990.
