Door gap question

Hi all, I'm resurrecting a 1974 challenger coupe. I'm about to weld new quarter panel skins onto the body. I bolted the doors back on and found that the gap between the doors and the new quarter panels are not consistent above and below the body line. The gap gets larger the further away from the body line I go. The body line of the door does line up with the body line of the quarter panel. I need to adjust the quarter panel edge so that the gap is straight and consistent. Before I do that I need to make sure the door is in the correct position. I did not remove the latch pin from the body so I assume that it is in the correct location. Can anyone tell me the best way to line up the door and what the gaps between the door and quarter panel and the door and sill plate are supposed to be? Do I need to install my front fenders to do this properly? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Not a bad idea to have the front fenders on for this. I am putting quarters on a `68 Road Runner currently and had to actually modify the panel to make the door gap right, here is a link.

X2 Put the front fenders on and line the doors up with them first. Then see what the quarters look like. They may need reworked some. Here is a link to a thread that may help. He was doing front fenders but shows what may need done to your quarters if they are off. http://www.forebodiesonly.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2979&page=2

Thanks for the response. I thought my project was rusted bad. After looking at these pictures, I'm thinking, I'm lucky. As for the Gaps, I had someone tell me I should hold 1/4" between the door and the quarter panel, 3/8" between the door and the sill and 1/4" between the door and the front fender. Does this sound correct?
