Door VIN tags

I am stripping the drivers door on my 73 Challenger and just wondering if anyone has suggestions for working around the VIN tag on the door. Car this be removed, without damaging, or is it better to leave it on and work around it, just mask before paint.

In my opinion, I would carefully mask it off and work around it. Too easy to damage it getting it off and it's only the original door sticker once!

They are designed to destroy themselves when removed.
Don't try to take it off. Leave it and work around it.

ECS will do a replacement if you have the original

I vaguely recall ~40 years trying to peel one off at a junkyard and as I did it the word "Void" or something like that appeared on the remnant that was stuck to the door.

Thanks, I thought there was someone out there that did replacements. Now the big question, what is ECS.
