My gauge reads almost empty all the time. I do notice it raise up a tiny bit when I start the car. I grounded the lead to the sender and the needle rises very slowly but only gets to a little before the halfway mark then stops. I have a brand new sender and when I hook it up the gauge will go up to the same exact point as when I ground the lead. This is without installing the sender but instead testing it in the trunk and grounding the unit while moving the float up and down.
Everything I have read states that the needle should rapidly move to the full mark when I run these tests. Nowhere though do they say anything about if it only goes halfway up. When I put a test light on the sender lead I DO get a pulsing light so I am thinking the wiring may be OK.
So, does it sound like the gauge or the wiring would be bad here? All the other gauges work perfectly including the temp gauge which I have read shares some sort of a voltage regulator with the fuel gauge.
