Fuel gauge issue I have replaced the sending unit, and the voltage limiter. The gauge goes to full when I turn the key on very little gas in the tank. If I take the wire off the the sending unit the gauge goes to just over half. Any help PLEASE. 1970 Cuda standard dash.

The parts book does not differentiate between the two cluster types for this part, but there is a different part number for the e, a and b-body voltage limiters. Is it possible the wrong one is installed?

Could it be a bad jumper that goes between the 2 fuel lines at the back of the car. There is a peice of rubber that goes between the fuel tank and the fuel line. There should be a little metal clip that grounds between the two hard lines.

The only ground there is a wire from the tank to the frame.

With the wire off of the sending unit, you should be completely disconnecting the circuit, but apparently there is still enough current flow to make the gauge to register over half full. Maybe a weak short to ground in the wiring between the gauge and sending unit terminal?

Are you running a stock or aftermarket (solid state) voltage limiter? Have you checked voltage at the sending unit terminal?
