Looking for advice regarding fuel lines. I'm restoring a 1970 challenger R/T with a 383 Magnum, 4 bbl Holley 4160. I bought the car without a fuel tank which adds to my confusion. The car had a 5/16" fuel line only and the fuel pump had 5/16" ports. The dual fuel line carb inlets flare into a single 3/8" tube. I have already replaced the front to back feed with a new 5/16" fuel line. When researching the new fuel tank sender unit I see a choice of 5/16" or 3/8". A new 3/8" sender has a return fuel tube. I would rather use the 5/16" sender without the return fuel tube. I had the engine rebuilt and the machine shop installed a fuel pump with 3/8" ports.
I'm confused.
1. Will a 5/16" sender and front to back fuel line work for a 383? Can I use the 5/16" sender and fuel line with the 3/8" port fuel pump? I realize I would need a reducer in the line at the fuel pump feed port.
2. Should I run 3/8" line from the pump to the carb?
Thanks for any help you can send my way.

5/16 is stock and will work fine. I actually did an engine swap on my 383 Challenger to a 440 six pack and then a 426 Hemi in the late 70's and early 80's and the 5/16 line fed them just fine.

you should be able to slide 5/16 line onto the fuel pump fittings with a bit of silicone lube

The carb float bowls hold enough fuel to help when there is a temporary high demand; but I used to have a car that would completely drain the bowls in a 1/4 mile drag race. The car would sputter at the end and the electric fuel pump would be pumping like crazy... you should be fine driving around town though.
