glass scratches

Whats your recommendations on addressing a side glass scratched from a worn window seal and windshield from a bad wiper?
I will admit it unnerves me to put a sanding disc on a drill and hitting it. It very well may be the thing to do it's just a little nervy to me.

A general rule I recall, is if the scratches are deep enough to feel with your fingernail, they are too deep to be polished out. Otherwise, a cloth-like polishing wheel is used with an appropriate polishing compound.

I believe you can fill a deep scratch and buff it out.
Call a glass company, they should be able to fix it.
If the scratch is light, then you should be able to buff it out

You can certainly fix or make less notable scratches than a crack!! Call a glass place in your nearest town (I say that because I live in the boondocks not in town)!

you can successfully remove even DA scratches with Glassweld G-Force Max.. Check it out at Glassweld.com under scratch removal. the kit is expensive $1000-$1500 but it does work. My 70 Cuda front and rear glass was scratched with DA scratches on the edges and corners. It takes a lot of time for deep scratches but it will get them out. on the rear i had 15+ scratches all over with most being deep enough to catch with fingernail and DA scratches on the corners and edges. i got 90-95% out and made the glass very usable for my restoration. I sent two side windows glass back to classic because of fitment issues and that was when i bit the bullet and got this kit. saved all the glass and now I'm working on saving my 66 Vette glass as well. There are some youtube videos on it as well you can check out. If anyone goes down this road, reach out and i will pass on the tricks i learned to save you some time.

I have some scratches left from bad wiper blades.
But I'd buy new glass before spending $1500, or even $500.

You'd be surprised what toothpaste on a buffing wheel will clean up scratch wise.

Dual Action Sander usually 80 grit sand pads. make terrible scratches when glass is not removed or protected

I would have to say that is very correct.

Depends what you can live with.

If you look at the edge of the windows. It can be seen that they are not completely clear as glass. Reason being. Being a tempered glass. The process is. The glass is cut to shape. Then the edges are ground to finished shape with 120 grit. Belt sander hand and stationary. That is the finish on the edges. Rounded edges. Then it is sent to a kiln for the forming and shape process in a mold. That is what I did a few times for custom pieces of glass.That was in a glass shop. A factory just might have a different process.
As far a buffing out. Not going to happen. The physical scratch will still be there. What the processes is doing is relieving the edges so the eye might not see it. That is for a scratch. Now scuff might buff out. Because all you are doing is spreading the scuff in a wide area and going deeper. So that doesn't mater as much because glass is not perfectly flat. Per SE. Your just creating an illusion.

It just depends what you can live with.
