This is my best guess after putting the pictures through some editing software.

1357951
PP6353938 028

I am fairly certain of the top line, but second line I am not sure of the 6 or 5. If you have bigger picture files, I might be better able to figure it out.

Second line is:
PP (New Process the mfgr)
833 (4 spd manual trans)
3938 (10,000 day calendar, May 9, 1972)
028 (28th trans assembled that day)

First line should be the last 8 digits of the VIN, but that one looks strange.
1357951 looks ok except for the last "1" and the the model year and plant code is missing.

An example would be like 0B123456 (0 for model year, B for plant code, and 6 digits of the VIN).

The 10,000 day calendar shows that the 833 4 speed was assembled on May 9, 1972
Opps, it looks like I got treeded...

Thanks very much guys, DrEamer, thanks for filtering the numbers, I was a mile off, I think thats why I couldn't get anywhere with those numbers. Buddy tells me it's out of a 70 challenger, now that it pans out as a 72, I don't know if I could take his word on any thing he says now.
Is there a way to determine from these numbers if its even out of an e body? I mean, without actually going there and shift the tranny and measure the rotations of the input to output shafts?

Ok, I got my answer, according to posts on another forum , 71 to 74 b body is the same ratios as
e body.

Might not be your buddy's fault. I have to remind myself these cars are 50+ years old and have changed hands many times in most cases. That tranny might have come out of a 70... that someone put a 72 tranny in years ago. LOL.

That's always a valid point, it's just that this guy prides himself on anything mopar.
I did get the tranny, bellhousing, z bar and some odds and ends, I don't think it needs rebuilding, fingers crossed!
BTW, "buddy" is just a figure of speech in Vancouver, the person doesn't necessary have to be a friend,
