Help with trunk lock

Is there a specific way to get the lock to fit flush with the emblem? Can't figure it out.

Grind the lock or emblem?

I thought the lock mounted in the rear body panel, and the gran coupe medallion covered it.
But its been years since I touched a GC.

That is correct the medallion does cover the lock. I took the lock out without grinding, or cutting. Can't remember how I got it out, and or how to put it back in.
