I bought my 1970 Cuda in 1994 when I was still in high school with my summer mowing money. I drove it through college and it has set in my dads garage for over 20 years. I am just starting to restore it. It was not a matching numbers car so I am going to do some extra stuff to it. I am having trouble fitting the year one 17 x 9 inch wheels with 5 inch back spacing fitting in the fender. Anyone know the correct length of a 1970 axel?

I cannot answer the wheel issue but 5" of back space seems a little too much.

Reference the axle Google in your friend, however

All E bodies 70 - 74
Axle shaft length = 29 31/32"
Rearend housing width (drum to drum) = 61 5/8"

Welcome to the site from Arkansas! Nice your building your high school car. Those were the days. When I graduated, six of us lined up from a 67 GTX, 68,69 RR’s, 70 cuda, 71 challenger and all did burnouts in front of the school. I still smell it. Lol. As far as the 17’s with 5” backspace feels like an issue for me. I’ve only run 15’s with 4 1/2” backspacing. I know there’s a bunch out there so, most likely the tire size if everything thing is stock.
