Hurricane Irma

Wow, that is an unbelievable scene along that highway; gives a sense of the amount of devastation and damage that took place.
I am really glad you and family are OK.
Cleanup looks like a massive task. Have you gotten any help form FEMA?

I'm working on that now. FEMA will pick up what insurance won't cover. Insurance is refusing to pay based on the year my home was built. This was not an issue when they were receiving payment. FEMA still won't pay until all has been exhausted with the insurance company in a law suit. This leaves many of us in no mans land. Luckily my damage is not as bad as the pics I posted of my friends home.

The insurance company won't pay based on the age of your home??? That's a new one on me and is infuriating! What's the name of this so called insurance company?

Citizens. Run by the state of Florida. They claim it costs more than 1-1/2 times the value of the house for materials to replace it. Which is why they say it is too old. If you go by accessed value..yes; by market value no. Florida has a law that a homesteaded homes' accessed value can only go up by 3% per year. I've been here for 27 years causing a large gap in accessed and market value. I have to get them to go by market value. Its never easy with insurance companies.

If you've been meeting your obligation to pay for your insurance policy then I would say they have an obligation to you.
