I ask the question last week about modifying the reverse lights on my 73, never did like the look. One member said that he cut his in half with a bandsaw. So I figured I would give it a try. I don't have a bandsaw so I used a cutoff wheel on my dremel tool. So you have to cut four taillights in half, low RPM because the plastic melts easy.

Will that pass inspection?
I think so, it will still have reverse lights, just not white. The license plate is reflective, hopefully the will be good enough for reflector. For safety I could put the old ones back in, only take a couple of mins.

Couldn't you have just used the complimentary lens from the opposing side instead of performing surgery? You know, take the outboard left lens to put in the inboard right position?

I assume with either method you still need to extend the taillight wiring to that position and disable the reverse light socket, unless you want red reverse lights.

Although the lenses look the same, they are different size. Tail is physically larger and will not seat to bezel housing. Copilot chose not to, but on mine, I set aside reverse circuit and tapped tail and brake circuits, added sockets and 1157 bulbs. Its the Rebel way.
