Stock bulbs just aren't bright enough at night. Curious about adding an LED strip under dash shelf. Can this be connected to one of the orig dash bulb socket for power and on/off with headlight switch? If not what would be the simplest way to get power to them?

Stock bulbs seem to work perfectly for me.

Agree with using LED bulbs.
EDIT: Be sure and use yellow LED bulbs (soft-white color 2700K or close to that) as the instrument cluster has the proper blue-green plastic lense that will provide the factory color.

I tried white initially, and the color was blue, as the factory lenses are blue.
I then got yellow LEDs, that when mixed with the blue lenses yield a green light shown above.
Incandescent bulbs give off a yellowish light.
