Hello all, hope to help out with my mechanical knowledge and learn about my new direction (I'm usually a GM guy) with my first Mopar and first classic purchase. I been around classics my entire life thru my father but with that, life and prosperity takes time here in Hawaii longer than most and I'm finally in a position in my forties to go get my own and I chose a 1971 'Cuda. Pics later once I get it home.

One issue I'm trying to learn about is the shaker hood fitment. Originally a 340 and now a HEMI, I was told the heads are Indy and the block is a Mopar built engine 572. The intake is apparently higher and according to the mechanic who built it, the air filter had to be trimmed to fit(yea, don't make sense to me either) so there's that. I will post pics when I peel it open but until then, hope to meet up with some other bruddahs and see you at the bleiznfx cruises.

shoots,

Welcome to the site! Will need pics of course.

What island? I have spent considerable time (over a 30+ year period) on Kauai, some on Oahu, some on Hawaii, a little on Maui (before the fire). All have their own unique qualities.

welcome to the forum. I would start a new thread in the appropriate section about your fitment issue(s). Some find it easier to move back to OEM intake and carburetors to get fitment issues resolved. That said, once we know/see what you got and what you're working with, we can better advise.

Welcome to the site from Arkansas!
Sounds cool! Sounds like you have a lot of experience and, you’re in the right place to converse etc. looking forward to seeing it👍🏻

Welcome to FEBO from the desert! Hemi blocks are definitely taller than a 340 and used different parts than the small block shackers and a different base than the other big blocks (2 four barrels). Can't wait to see some pictures!

Welcome to FEBO. There a members here that have first hand shaker experience.

Welcome brah! Lived in Wahiawa in the 80's, worked at Schofield, and did some construction to survive. Was pretty broke back in those days, but at 18 years old, it was an experience of a lifetime. H3 wasn't open then, been back a few times, planning on going back on our 20th wedding anniversary in 3 years. Will be nice to see pics of that 71

Yeah, it will be a couple of weeks before I can even arrange shipment and then a few more weeks before it arrives. I have pics of hood closed and everything fits but the mechanic saying that the air filter had to be cut was fishy. I spoke to Elena(?) over at Indy heads and one of their techs Kenny will be looking into it. I will be making a thread about it. Haven't started to search on here so not doing my own diligence on that...

Here's a couple of pics I got. I didn't know the extent of Mopar engineering until this purchase. Very meticulous... There's a few things missing like the resonators and I'm still learning what else under the dash, hood etc. needs to be fixed or replaced to original.
Because of the air filter mod, I don't know how much of the warm/cold air door is missing. There's no vent handle so that's the first thing I want to get in to and therefore, fix the air filter.

I was very surprised at the little cool things like that on this car regardless that it is missing. I grew up in the '80's and the cars were pretty lame and tame comparably.
