while the # sign may under go ADDIOTNAL meanings, NOS, is NOS. Always has been clear what that means.

In our Mopar context, NOS is supposed to mean made/sold by Chrysler Dealer Parts Department. Never used. Sat on a shelf. May have shelf wear, may have some shelf rust, and was issued with a dealer routing sticker, and often, some kind of Chrysler packaging.

An example: those selling repro hood emblems as NOS, wrapped in bubble wrap (not NOS), or pressed into blocks of styrofoam (not NOS), or displayed on a bath towel (not NOS) is just some really nice parts, perhaps repro, perhaps nicely restored, but not too likely NOS. The packaging of those emblems as shipped and sold were clearly dealer issue.

Old --> Viintage --> Antique.

The original poster says NOS means " new original stock" and some say " new old stock" i was just trying to point out that all these abbreviations take on several different meanings

My concern with alleged NOS parts is that many real NOS parts were factory seconds. Blemished parts that were set aside and considered "good enough" for a warranty or repair part. Some real NOS parts were from a later run of parts which introduced differences. Example: Emblems produced in 1972 (a later run) but entered into the parts supply chain as equivalent to 1970 emblems.

I agree with @Xcudame. Buy the best repro or original part and avoid the NOS moniker unless the price is right.

I have only purchased 1 NOS part in my life. It was a turn signal new in the box for my 74 Chrysler New Yorker and it was only like $30.00 shipped. Other than that could never afford an NOS anything. I just always refurbished or restore good used parts.
