Found this back last October and after seeing how solid it was and no rodent damage at all, it came home with me. Originally a slant 6, drum brakes and manual steering, and was very comfortable with that. It can be a hard and long a process of finding an engine-trans and all the associated bits. But, on Christmas Eve I had jumped into FB marketplace looking for what, I don't remember. And BAM this engine trans 73 340 block, 70 X heads and 727 trans, combo popes up only 6 miles (not 6 states as is usually the case) and there is a recent video of it running in its donor car. Got every thing you see and the radiator and drive shaft.
Installed about the middle of February.
Since then, I've had to pick up a few things and get them installed. New engine harness, disk brake master, fuel line, fuel tank and sender, shorter steering shaft, locate some bits for the kick down linkage that were missing, factory valve covers and intake manifold and a few more small things I'm without a doubt forgetting.
I pulled the steering column got it cleaned it up and replaced the shaft and a couple small bits. Tended to the interior while this was all going on. The driver's seat back metal insert had been ripped open. New seat frame but only used the top my interior guy was able to swap over the soft bits. The brand-new bucket bottom seat frame is still for sale in here. Interior looks real good for its age I scrubbed every thing with a tooth brush removing 55 years of ground in dirt.
Anyway next on my hit list is I'd like to spritz the door and back seat panels with spry dye/ paint to clean them up a bit. Send the dash out to that fella in Kingman AZ who seems to do a great job. I can handle some old and tired looking but ripped and split open? No.
Got pieces for the engine. When finally getting to that stage the oil pan, water pump and timing covers need fresh gaskets. I will spray bomb the engine in place as best as possible and that will good enough. Since the disk brakes K member came off a 73 the wheel lugs were righty tighty. So a few weeks ago I got rid of the L hand lugs off the back left axle. New soft brake lines new disk brake non-power master. I could go on and on. Let's just say it had been sitting idle for quite some time. And that's not a criticism of Jon the last owner. I've a 73 Z-28 that sat without moving in a dry garage for 33 years before I got it. They are what they are.
Did I mention along the way at least 10lbs of cobwebs removed from the entire car? Wow!
