Slap Stick Question

There was nothing missing...I installed the original T handle and the shifter acted the same....I'm sure I'll have to go under the console, or under the car...,

I cannot think of any way the linkage, under the car, could impact the need/function of the button when shifting between D and 2. So you won't be on your back. :)

I think that will all be up top, under the console, in the gear shift unit. Possibly the button, and/or that pistol grip is a factor, but it's hard to say.
