My steering has been wonky and I’ve discovered that I have a TA(fast ratio)steering box, fast ratio pitman arm and stock idler. I believe the pitman/idler is throwing off the geometry. Unfortunately I will run into exhaust clearance issues if I use the longer f/r idler. I’m seriously considering installing a stock pitman arm. Yes, it’s a significantly more expensive part but I won’t have the expense of resolving the exhaust interference issue. Will using stock pitman/idlers with a f/r TA steering box create problems?

Both arms have to be the same length.
Just to be clear I want to put a replace the f/r pitman arm with a stock one which will be same length as the existing idler. I should be good to go in my opinion but don’t know if it will be a problem since I have a f/r TA steering box

The pitman arm you have on does it have fast ratio on it?

Call Firm Feel, they were extremely helpful when I needed a pitman arm for my 69 383-s fast ratio steering box. Only they knew what I really needed. U.S./Canada 1-360-546-3633

Big block car? On my brother's 70 R/T he added aftermarket fast ratio pitman & idler arms, the only issue was the passenger's side headpipe needed a little tweaking for clearance - I forget if it was just a matter of dinging the headpipe a little or if he took it to an exhaust shop for them to section in a slightly different piece, but either way it was a minor thing. I have Proforged fast ratio arms going on my R/T build and right now the idler clears without the grease fitting installed but I'll have to do something similar.

Be wary of the technical advice given.
Use the idler for a 70 fury to correct the geometry. If the fury idler hits the exhaust you have other problems!
