Tall & Short Tail Light Sockets?

Today I ran into a unique situation with my tail lights. I noticed that the sockets we're both tall and short. Now I don't believe I've ever seen the tail lights on the 70 Challenger being displaced within each lens. However, I know that the wiring kit that was used in this car was for a 70 Challenger. If that's the case, which socket tall and short goes where? If it isn't the case please let me know. Sometimes kits can be made for different cars...
 
Not quite sure what you mean but my 71 has 2 stop/tail light and 1 for the reverse lights which are different on each side. They do use different bulbs also.
 
Perhaps a photo will help. More to the point and that is, "Are all four of the socket bases the same in the 1970 Challenger?"

Ok. Funny story! Almost too embarrassing to tell.

Obviously, I have the "Wrong" tail light harness. I traced all the wiring to the back corner of the trunk. There I found a blue wire that was lopped off and taped. A little more investigation and I found, printed on the insulation, "Third Brake." Now I knew Chrysler Corp was a little ahead of the times, but not that much! Funny, everything else works and looks great! Just the socket, on each side, didn't line up with the other. Mmmm-mmmm solved!

Solution: two new combination rear light sockets - part # S 29, a little solder, a hot solder gun, shrink wrap with heat gun and a steady hand.

Sorry for the false alarm. I really thought I had something that mystified me. Instead, mmmm-mmmm yeah...
 
Hey problem solved that is what matters. Sounds like you came up with a nice solution.
