It's also crazy the '70 318 2BBL was rated only 10 HP less than my '73 340 4BBL, but they say you could never trust the factory HP numbers.....

Kansan, 1970 was still Gross Horsepower while in 73, your 340 was Net horsepower. Best guess from driving both 340 and 318 2bbl cars, I'd say the 340 has approximately 60 more horsepower. Both are great engines though! Slap 340 heads and intake on a 318, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference!
