Sorry I have been away from the forum for awhile.Been working too much overtime.Good news is I have more money to restore the car.
Last time I was on the Forum,I found out my car was numbers matching and was not sure how to proceed.I did disassemble the car to a rolling shell and had it painted Fk5.The only rust on the car was the trunk pan which was replaced. It is now sitting in my garage.I am in the process of cleaning the underside and rebuilding the suspension.
Have all the parts needed to finish the interior.Am going to stay with black.Should be Orange though.
The 340 has less than 1000 miles but sat for 18 years. Will have a race shop at the Speedway look the engine over.
Of course the car will not be ready for Mopars at the Strip but I live 1 mile from the Cannery Casino if anyone is interested in seeing it.

I was wondering where you'd gone. Glad you're back and can't wait to see some pics of the twin of my car.

Finally figured out how to resize.
In the process of cleaning the undercarriage and rear suspension. No rust,a little dirt, not much undercoating.Lots of work though.Scraping and sanding by hand.I live in a home owners assoc so have to keep the noise down.It is Ok ,I will no every square inch of the car when done.

Oh Man does that look great! What is the build date on that car? Can't remember from the original thread if that was said. If it's early, I may have something you'd be interested in.
Just went back to my resto thread where we figured out your car was #s matching and I think your car is early judging by the casting date on the engine. Check your fender tag for the build date and post it up.
Again the paint looks great, let's see some close ups.

Yours was built October 22 of `69, so it's earlier then my November 13 car. I was referring to those NOS hood decals that I picked up. I had finally gotten around to having those reproduced however I just gave them my first close inspection at home yesterday and noticed something that didn't match the originals on this sample run.
False alarm on having something for you until I get these straightened out.
Are you going with a rallye hood for your car?

Rallye Hood

The car has a rallye hood, non crumple.I would like to put 340-Four Barrel emblems on the hood but I hear it was not a 1970 option.
I am trying to decide how stock I should build the car.I like the longitudinal stripes and Go-Wing.My car is stripe delete and the Go-Wing was not availible till later in the model year.
We should build our cars the way we want yet I believe numbers matching A66 E55 D21 LA built cars are rare.Any idea on production numbers?

2,819 340 4spds, I'm sure the majority were built in Detroit but I don't know how it breaks down. I am sure that if your 340 Challenger came with a rallye hood it would have had a engine call out on it, wether it was a decal or an emblem. Are there any holes in your hood for emblems?

Rallye Hood

No holes.I believe it is original to the car.Was the 340 callout availible in 1970? Or first availible in 1971?

Neat car you have there. From what I have seen on the early A66 cars that had the rallye hood is they had the 340 decal up to sometime mid Nov. Then they started using the 340 emblem. Having the decal on the early cars was hit and miss from what I have seen. It's nice you got that non crumple hood, hard to find and really one of the only ways to tell if car came with one as these early cars where all over the place. Does your car have V8 emblems on the fenders ? I'm no expert but this is what I have seen with these A66 cars while doing research on my project.

70 Challenger progress and VIN tag question

Still working on the undercarriage.Rebuilt the leaf springs(new galvanized plates, clamps, bushings and paint).

I am sure I am not the only person with this issue. The black interior was installed in the car many years ago.The dash has no VIN tag.I was able to get a Nevada title easy enough using the Washington Title and serial numbers on the body parts.

Could I run into trouble someday if I decide to sell the car to an out of state buyer?

What a shame there's no vin tag. In an earlier post you said that you lost the fender tag years ago also.If you get pulled over and there's no vin tag they will likely tow the car. Noone reproduces vin tags so if I were you I would either get a state id number for the car which will hurt its value or do what I did, find another car that needs everything and use this car as a doner for it.

Fender Tag

When I bought the car back after 17 years, the former owner had the fender tag.I thought I had kept it and lost it.Good news for me.

I hope this information helps.Parting the car out is not an option.I am not the first person that bought a car without a VIN tag.Anyone else?

I recently went through the same thing. I had a perfect body with no dash and I exhausted every resource available to get a replacement vin tag. The only option available to me was an inspection by the state patrol and them issuing a state id number. I chose the route of cutting the car up and putting the metal on another car. The diference with me was that they were both 318 cars that meant nothing to me. In retrospect I should've just got the state id, it would have been a lot easier. If the car means a lot to you then maybe you should do that. I strongly suggest you do something before you drive that car around with no vin tag, its too nice a car to lose if you were to get pulled over. I don't know about Las Vegas but Denver looks for reasons to take cars from people. Keep looking in the meantime though, someone out there might reproduce vin tags although, with the wealth of knowledge here and the fact that noone is replying except me confirms that they are not reproduced by anyone.
Don't buy a vin tag and title either. That would be the easiest thing to do and the most tempting. If anyone ever checks the body numbers against the vin you might find yourself in a whole lot of trouble even though you meant no harm. Not to mention it encourages the people who sell them to keep doing it.
Good luck.

This is a huge bummer for you, it would be a shame to have a state I.D. for this car but it may be your only option. Do some online research, maybe you'll find an alternative.
I now have available the 340 Four Barrel decals that I had made from a pair of NOS ones I found locally. They are going for $40 a pair, let me know if you're interested. The first pic is an original and the second is a new one that I applied over a piece of blue vinyl. These are very nice and made from 5.9 mill reflective material. So far the response has been great.
