I keep seeing people post about having a 340 RT. I had a 70 340 Ralley Pack car in the mid 70's and it had all the parts that a RT came with but it did NOT have any RT emblems on it. So, what's the official word? Any RT small blocks in any year? According to Allpar, the 340 was NOT available with the RT badging and the 383 was the base engine for an RT.....and I never saw one on any of the dealership lots back in the day.

No small block R/T in 1970. In 71 I believe the 383 was still the standard engine for the R/T but the 340 was an extra cost option.

I've heard the confusion is because the factory put R/T badges on a few 340 cars by mistake. 340 cars were coded A66. There is a large A66 thread on Moparts if anyone wants to learn about them.

Kinda odd that the 340 was offered in all the 'Cuda' packages in all years except 74 when the 360 took over.

I think it's believed that it was an oversight by Dodge. That's why the 340 was offered as a "package" early on in the model year. They corrected the oversight in 71.

To add more confusion. In '71 you could get a 340 non R/T.

It's amazing how the '70 340 car doesn't turn into an R/T until it's time to sell.

My A66 car is the one that sold at BJ a year or two ago for $57k. I sold it to get my current 340 'cuda tribute.

I like my small block e bodies.

Pic of that A66.

Nice A66! I can't wait to start on mine. I have a #'s matching burnt orange/burnt orange with a black top and stripe project.
