Looking to go to fuel injection in my 408 stroker cuda. I have a noisy pump mounted on the rear frame that won"t work with FI. I know tanksinc make a tank with a pump inside, but can a in tank pump work in my stock gas tank?

Thanks

This is one option. It is correct for my 73 Cuda. Probably be the way I go whenever FI happens. Not sure how that all squeezes in through the portal but I guess it does. I have a brand new tank and would rather use it than have to buy the same thing with a pump in it already.

That is sweet, wish I would have done that with mine. I bet the bottom strip is a plastic piece that flexes. I guess I will run my external pump for my EFI until it dies.

What EFI did you go with rklein71? I googled above pump, looks good, but I would like to see some specs, how much it pumps. How much do I need.

Good input
Thanks

I have a Holley Sniper with the Hyperspark ignition. I don't know the specs on the in tank pump. Rod

Something between 250-350 L/hr should work fine for anything but full on race applications. I'm not aware of any of these aftermarket kits that are smaller than that.

I did the spectra tank with electric pump inside. It has a sump pan, maybe not the best sump pan design having radius corners verses square for fuel sloshing.
It’s $326@ ($310 with 5% discount) 1972 PLYMOUTH CUDA 5.6L 340cid V8 Fuel Tank & Pump Assembly | RockAuto
DE9F1BE6-D657-4359-8F20-6C463228CF21.png

This is a 72 Cuda tank shown.
From my tank I took the pump out, it’s a walbro, forgot the model number, but if I remember right it’s a very available one with good flow.
I tore the pick up sock when removing pump assembly. Just as well because it was clocked wrong meaning not laying flat, but turned up. Would of worked but not ideal.
I added the Holley hydra mat sock, probably didn’t need to, it’s expensive but should help prevent low fuel starving. Bottom picture shows how Holley sock comes with the star pump connector. You can see from my picture I had to trim all the other ears off then it fit perfectly.
These are pictures of my tank.

FWIW
This picture is a good example of filter sock 180 degrees in the wrong direction if your tank has a sump pan. It’ll work for an open bottom tank.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I am wanting/needing to put an electric pump in my car and didn't really want to do an external pump back by the tank.

With a fpr for gas this would be a great alternative for anyone with a carb.

How were the instructions?

Super easy to install. Will take a look for instructions. 2 wires for fuel gauge and 2 wires for fuel pump, IIRC. I installed a relay kit from summit to bring power. Also used a inertia switch wired into ground wire side, it’s from a Crown Vic Incase of accident. Ford used them in a lot of vehicles. eBay was were I got it. Picture below.

The gauge is fairly accurate, well at least on mine.
Pump is not super quiet you can hear it until you start it up.
I’m using with a carb, fuel supply to a regulator that’s made for higher pressure pump feeding 5-7 psi carb.
Also a return line. It’s ready for EFI when time comes.

Nice, thanks for the reply. Glad to hear you are using it with a carb as that is my plan and the gauge is close on yours. Think its quiter than the typical Holley electric? Those you can normally hear over the engine at idle. I will look into the inertia switch. Might be a good option.

Did you mount a post filter and regulator in the engine bay?

I haven’t had a chance to hear a Holley. This one is not louder than the engine LOL! Just loud enough when you flip the key you hear it.
I’ve got the car apart for 1-2 more weeks, (hopefully) then I’ll see about a video.
I did do a post filter even though the Holley hydro mat is 15 microns. The post filter I mounted under on the rear shock cross bar. FWIW I did it that way because both of my daily drivers truck and SUV have the gas filter mounted underneath to the frame from factory. Regulator is mounted to fire wall. Left is fuel inlet, bottom is return and right is going to carb. I want to do this routing a little different to make a loop. Holley has a good diagram of it.
I did find tank instructions for wiring.

Ok here’s the way I want to redo my fuel line at carb. Currently it’s done like 2a. I want to reroute so it’s like 2b. Reason is 2b is a genuine loop, there’s less fuel being stagnet getting warm.
Probably splitting hairs but heat is a concern for carbs and modern fuel.

Thanks for posting. I like the 2b routing as well. I have never done a carb application that way but that is how EFI normally runs. Will have to look for a carb fuel log that fits that setup.

I’ll make my own using a tubing bender and flaring tool. Using JIC fittings which have a similar look and work like AN fittings at a much lower price. Online or from a hydraulics supply house.

Was looking at this again before I order it. Can you confirm the feed and return sizes? The amazon link doesn't list any. Really hoping its a 3/8" outlet/feed line

Thanks again!
