I found a third member for an 8 3/4 rear end from a 1972 D 100 truck on Craig's list, with 3:55 gears. It has a 741 housing. Does anyone know if this will fit an E body 8 3/4 rear end? Thanks

It will fit the housing, the 741 is not the high HP differential though. Fine for stock application but if you are building a lot more torque/ HP engine, not the first or second choice.
Thanks. I'm looking for a something that will be dependable for a daily driver.

I drive the freeways a lot. I was thinking about going to a 2.76 or 3.23 to bring the RPMs down. or should I stay with the 3.55? Any opinion? Thanks

I had a 2.76 in my convertible and I didn’t realize how great that gear was until I put the 3.23 in it. There’s no way I’d put a 3.55 in a car that you plan on doing a lot of highway driving in unless you’re thinking about adding a gear in the trans department. I have 2.94‘s in my Imperials and I think thats the perfect gear.

I had 2.76 in my Charger with the A833 OD , it was a bit slow off the line but the 3.09 first gear helped , it would idle at 75 MPH in OD !! I was over 145 MPH in 3rd with a top speed around 260 MPH

I had a Cuda in the 70s with 3.55 years. It got terrible gas milage. This was during the energy crisis. Thanks for the info, very helpful.
