Installing an Exhaust System

Hi, Has anyone installed an exhaust system from after the exhaust manifolds / headers out to the tailpipes, at their home garage / shop? Is there enough room to work if you use jack stands? Or do you really need an automotive lift that a repair shop uses? Thanks

don’t need a rack to build a car. I did mine on wood blocks, aNd 3 2x8‘s laying flat gets it 4.5” off the ground. Plenty of room. Best to have the rear on the tires for the over axle pipes to fit Right.

I'm slightly overweight, a slight gut. I'm going to have to install exhaust hangers for resonators around the back seat area. The car was originally a single exhaust, and I'll have to drill holes towards the center of the car. That's the main area I was concerned about, if I'd have enough room to maneuver especially using a drill. So you used the 2X8's to hold the exhaust pipes up and in place? And to make sure, you kept the rear tires on to fit the over axle pipes correctly?

I did mine on jack stands. Put the Jack's on the the axle and all.went well. Just take your time, there's plenty of room.

Not bad installing the exhaust on ramps or jack-stands. Obviously a lift would be the easiest though.

Last time I installed exhaust on my car, I used jackstands, and when I was fitting the pipes on the car, it started to rock. So that was the last time I used jackstands, I made some wooden cribbing, made it safer to crawl under my car. You can make them as high as you need, but I wouldn’t go over 14 inches.

My BMI is 28. Technically that makes me overweight.
That said, I did mine on jack stands. It was the headers to the over the axle pipes. It’s not pretty.
I recently bought an H pipe kit to bolt to the headers so I will still need to fab up 2 pipes to bridge the gap.
Im lucky to have a conduit bender at work that should work.

I put on TTI system, from stock manifolds to tips, on car ramps up front and jack stands under the axle. Plenty of room to do it in garage by yourself.

Neither, just realistic. Let’s face it. Most people are not in the shape the good lord intended. Makes it difficult to get under a car. Us fat guys have to stick together.

Did 2 complete exhausts on my back in my 1 car garage with the car on jackstands from manifolds to tips, selling one of the packages now, TTI x pipe 2.5” with dynomax ultraflow mufflers for cuda (with the polished welded on tips)…

If using jack stands, get the HD 3 ton ones. They are much more stable. I just did a 4 speed swap and TTI exhaust on HF 3 ton stands. I also made some wheel cribs for installing my frame connectors. They work great also. Be safe!

Installing a prefabbed exhaust system, Jack stands are high enough but still tight. Any of the suggestions that will get you a few more inches of height will be better. I'm an older man so crawling under and out again repeatedly was more of an issue for me.

Looks like everyone seen the same posts. I used 2x6 screwed together and I stack them. Worked great enough room to work for me.

How do you get the tires jacked up that high to get that much blocking under them?

I have a HF low profile long reach floor jack with a little help ( wooden block )
use the block at your own risk!! You need to be careful the car is not move and the jack can move as it lifts.

I have my car currently on 4- 3 ton jack stands.
When I work under the car, I additionally place a floor jack up against a frame rail as a safety measure. Not to lift the car, but just against the frame so if a stand gives out, the car is still supported. I will at times put a second floor jack in another area depending on what I am working on.
