Most things are, these days. From really crummy designs and materials, to superb quality manufacturing.

China is very capable of making amazing quality items, but mostly when the U.S. client company has tight control on materials and design specs.

When left to some Chinese to choose, they do what they do best, under-engineer, cut corners to save every penny.
