I have a 70 Cuda 440. On my fuel sender coming out of the tank is a place for a fuel return. The mechanical fuel pump does not have a return on it so where do I route this coming from the fuel sender or do I just block it off which is what I have done already.

In order to use the fuel return your car should have the fuel vapor separator, before the fuel pump. From there you would have the return line which would feed back to your sending unit. You must be missing the return line as well?

I had the same issue and my barracuda was vapor locking when it got hot. I replaced the inline fuel filter between the mechanical fuel pump and carb with one that has two exit nipples. One nipple for fuel line to the carb and one for a return line back to the fuel tank. I ran a return line back to the sending unit and it solved my vapor lock issue. Initially I had the sending unit return line nipple capped off and would have left it that way if not for the vapor lock issues.

The vapor separator is after the fuel pump. Not before. Here is a pic of the correct layout. Also, not all of those filters with the 1/4" nipple are correct either. Some do not have the small orifice to reduce the fuel going back to the tank. The correct separator has a mounting bracket that bolts on with the front fuel pump bolt. Mopar designed this set up because of vapor lock issues with fuel boiling in the fuel pump at shut down. Fuel line is 3/8" from the sender to the fuel pump and the return line is 1/4" from the separator back to the sender 1/4" nipple.

Sorry, you are correct, I was going from memory on the placement of mine. My fuel separator is in the same spot as yours.

Sixpactogo is correct if you’re going for the factory OEM original fuel separator setup. The Amazon filter suggestion I sent to you has the 3/8 carb and the 1/4 return nipple. and work great if your just looking to set up a return line. Hope info helps you. 🏝
