Bluecifer 1970 Cuda B7 Blue Restoration

Got front hubs and drums cleaned up and blasted and repainted after they were turned true. I guess I'm getting old and lazy. Didn't feel like pulling the third member. So since I had it apart I just stood it up on the end to drain the gear oil out of it. Gear oil looked good. Will put new fluid in when I install it. Didn't like the way the axles looked either since everything else now is so clean. So hit them with the mini blaster and we'll flush out the wheel bearings again to make sure they are safe before I paint the axles with cast blast.

Have you considered pulling the 8-3/4" differential and restoring it to factory-finish (natural)?

Got some things done yesterday for the Cuda. Assembled the master cylinder with dot 5 fluid. Adjusted the axle end play for the differential. Installed all of the brakes and hardware and adjusted them to the drums properly. The roller Wheels and tires are pretty nasty, so a friend of mine gave me some good tires. I will clean and paint the wheels and remount good tires on them. Attach them to the differential, then I can roll it around where I need to until I finish with the body of the car.

Looking good MoparMitch! I love Dot 5 brake fluid. Besides all the braking benefits, it won't damage your paint if you accidently spill some on your car!
 
Rolled the car outside today so I don't get body dust in my Garage. I am addressing some of the very small pinholes that appeared in the body after it was glass beaded. I am using metal reinforced filler for these minor pinholes. Only have pinholes in a few spots on the car. A few by the battery tray, a few in the passenger floor. And a few at the lower windshield at the cowl. And a few in the trunk. There is a 1-in hole in a trunk that I will have to cut out and replace with metal. But again very small pinholes not warranting cutting out metal and welding new metal in, in most places.

That car must not be from the rustbelt area. Nice to not have to install body panels/patch panels.

Believe it or not Lee. This car was bought new at Anacostia Chrysler Plymouth in Wash. D.C. ( Long Gone ) in the Spring of 1970. Spent its life just outside Wash D.C. in the suburbs. I am the second owner. I have the original title and sales invoice in the first owners name, and the window sticker, warranty repair receipts from the selling dealership, etc.. Two build sheets, and all other documentation. All numbers on car match including drive train. I am the first to disassemble the car . Yes,Yes, I got Very Lucky..

That was a great find! And they just don't come around like that very often anymore.
 
Over the past week or so I have spent time filling pinholes that I found here and there after the car was stripped and epoxied. I used metal infused filler .Think I have them all fixed now. The hole in the trunk I will weld in new metal with the piece you see there which is original Mopar sheet metal from a '68 belvedere. I'm having such trouble finding someone that will block this car out and paint it for me that I think I am going to make an attempt on my own. Going to start with the trunk lid. The doors, fenders, and Hood are all in the original paint and undented .I'll get the deck lid stripped,In epoxy primer and then I'll block it and prime it and see how it looks. If it looks good I'll move on. If not, I will strip it and start over. I will learn to do it myself. Sometimes the only way to get anything done is to do it yourself. Here are some before and after pics of some of the pinholes, and a few slightly larger holes that I backed.

So I have been agonizing what to do about the destroyed dash pad for my '70 Cuda. The original owner had taken the dash pad out giving it to a friend to repair. That dumbass wrapped it with fiberglass WTF? Also it was missing the VIN plate. That really concerned me until I found a guy in Europe that made me a perfect copy of the original. Meanwhile, trying to decide what to do with the dash. I took it outside and stripped all of the fiberglass off of it to save the next guy some labor time. Started calling around and researching dash pad guys. I actually sent some pictures to Just Dashes and their sales guy called me back and we discussed it over the phone. In my opinion, he was way overpriced and a total ass on the phone. After further research, I found that they ain't so good anyhow. Enter ABC Moparts. Did a little research and found out that he seems to do a pretty good job for a reasonable price. I talked to Bob Baker there about 20 minutes. Seems like a pretty nice guy. So now the hard part. I live in Maryland. His shop is in Arizona. LOL. He obviously has a backlog as he told me but I am getting ready to go out of the country to Vietnam for 6 months anyhow. He told me he'd have it done by the time I got back in April from Vietnam. So yesterday I took it over to my UPS pack and ships store. Wow, what a shock. I'm not going to say how much to send it but it was a lot. I figure I'll be saving all that money rather than letting Just Dashes do it. Got to justify it somehow, right? I also got the rest of my order from legendary Auto interiors. The bucket seat covers and the rear bench covers arrived although 5 weeks after the foams and the other stuff. Now I just need to get my Ass in gear when I get back from Vietnam and get this car in paint and get it assembled. Famous last words..
