Battery: What are you using and why. What seemed to work best for you? What do you prefer Trunk mount or under hood? Wet cell or AMG? Charger and tenders. Post the Good Bad and Ugly experiences.

Using a battery from Walmart under the hood, because it was the best for the price. No way was going to spend 600 for a battery that was period correct.

Same here, I base everything on $/yr.
I buy the Walmart battery for $75, they always last at least 5yrs.
So would the $150 premium last 10yrs or the $300 lithium last 20yrs?
Of course not.
Optima red top, 900 CCA ( I think), also keep a trickle charger on it a couple weeks a month in the winter. They seem to last 6-7 years.
Got a great vendor that will do an even exchange if needed.
No uglies to report.
They are pricey.

I use a group 65 in the trunk of my 540 HemiCuda which I get from the late model wrecking yards. $35 buys a nearly new battery with a warranty. There are other sizes that fit, but the group 65 is very common. The one in the car now is getting weak. Been in there since 2020. No trickle charger, just try to start it on a 50 degree day in the winter that comes around every 4 to 6 weeks.

This guy gives the Everstart good marks for the money. The only thing I don't like about The Walmart battery they charge you a core charge but won't take you core for the credit.

I've always taken in my old battery for the core, never had an issue.
I don't buy the battery at normal check out at front of store, always do the transaction in the auto center.

I bought an AGM battery to ensure no leaks onto my painted engine compartment. Ended up moving it to the trunk with 1/0 cable to give more room up front. No regrets. Will go Walmart battery when needed next time.

Batteries suck. This year I have had around 10 batteries fail. All in the 15-20 year vintage. All dead.
Batteries are the bane of my car's existence's. Same with my motorcycles. They just don't last like they used to. That's not because the companies don't know how to make them but because they want you to buy new ones at least every 3-4 years. Motorcycles go bad every year or two.
Does anyone know who's batteries will last 10 plus years now?
In my work trucks I use Interstate as my mechanics shop warranties them and I have no issues with return when they go bad before warranty time.
In my motorcycles I use the Lithium batteries. They work great and weigh next to nothing. But EXPENSIVE. Decent warranties and you have to use ION chargers.

Don't know what brand battery it was but our 2012 Charger still had the original battery in it when we sold it in 2023. 11 years old and still cranking just fine. 120,000 miles. Should have kept that car.

That's what I was wondering. As far as I know there are only a hand full lead acid car battery manufactures in the US. There might be others?

FWIW I use a Mopar replica yellow capped battery. AGM technology and got 9 years out of my first battery. My battery is alway on a battery tender when not in use. The battery was on the expensive side, but I wanted the OEM look under the hood. I’ve had my car for 13 years and am only on my second battery. In the winter the battery is remove and placed on a 2x4 piece of wood in the basement and remains on a battery tender.

Another Walmart Everstart user here. Nothing, and I mean nothing will last more than 5 years here in the desert heat! So buy the charming cheapie! With 8 Mopars, gotta save dough somewhere! If I was to show a car, guess I'd go with a factory clone, but driving around, it's too expensive to toss out every four of five years!

I had the same thing with an Optima yellow top went to tighten the positive terminal clamp and the post came out of the battery I think they went bad when they started making them in Mexico. Had a US made red top lasted over 10 years and wasn't even well looked after.
I bought a Walmart Everstart Platinum series battery. Forget their lower priced 1yr, 2yr and 3 yr batteries that have prorated warranties. Their platinum battery costs more, but it has a 4 yr warranty with no prorating. The guy in the service department told me to bring it back in 3.5 yrs and get a new one. Even exchange. He said everyone does it

Yellow top Optima. My neighbor/friend worked at O'Reilly Auto Parts and I got his discount. No complaints after 4 years.
