My first question is, are the differences between convertible and hardtop door glass so minor that they are interchangeable?

The side glass on my convertible is not in great condition with plenty of scratches and some edge chips. I always keep my eyes open for used replacements that are better than what I have. I recently was made aware of a friend with a set that was available locally so I jumped on the chance to buy them.
Even though they have their fair share of scratches they’re in better condition than mine. We’re talking tinted here so I think harder to find than clear.
We cleaned and inspected them before closing the deal and because of the source didn’t even think to look for any differences between the left and right. I went there to see convertible door glass and didn’t for a second think that I needed to verify that they were in fact convertible.

It wasn’t until I got them back to the shop and had them unwrapped next to each other did I notice the slight difference in the upper rear corner, one being rounded while the other more squared off. As anyone would I immediately went over to my convertible to see what it had and imagine my frustration to find that I have the same difference between my right and left, what are the chances?!!

Below is the set I just bought.

The silver lining here is that the newly acquired set is the opposite of what I have in the car so at the very least I now have a pair of convertible glass with the more squared off upper rear corner.

So is it the shape of the upper rear corner truly the only difference between convertible and hardtop door glass?

Thanks in advance for any insights into this.

E-body hardtop and vert door glass are not interchangeable.

The verts have a more sharp corner up near the windshield while the hardtops are very rounded in this region.

I cannot explain the radius differences you have at the corner near the rear quarter window.

So both pieces I have pictured are convertible then. Yes?

I replaced my vert glass with amd tinted glass. The old glass i had was curved like the one shown above. The amd glass came with the sharp corners. The amd glass fit perfectly. I don't know if the glass i changed out was original or not, but I believe it was original.

A long long time ago. I got some parts off a 71 convertible. Power windows front, rear and other parts. ( If I would have know I would have stripped it! )I was going to at the lest change the 1/4 window regulators. That I did but they didn't work right. They seem to bind up when at the to top Unbeknownst to me! If I understand it correctly. There is a different mounting location for power windows regulators. I seen it an wonder about that, but just took them out. So I think I sold the front regulators but not the glass. The rears I still have. I think! I'll have to look at the glass shape. The front glass I had stored in the garage where you have to work you get to. One day I was cleaning out to make room for more stuff. Well months later⚡💡 it hit what I thew out. :BangHead: 💋MY🫏! Well at lest now there are repos.

I should also add that both this set and the set on my car all have the pentastar on them so I guess that the two different upper rear corner details are correct.
