Hey all, can you help me locate a spot for a coolant temp sender. There is a plug on top of the thermostat housing but I'm not sure if that's the best location. If the thermostat was closed would the temp be accurate?

Motor is a hellcat.

Thanks in advance.

Even when the thermostat is closed, I seem to recall there is a tiny hole allowing some coolant to flow through it. A tiny amount, but enough so the temperature of the fluid will be more uniform on either side of the valve. Further it allows the thermostat to sense the temperature change and open where it's designed to. If your ideal spot is on the thermostat housing, that should work pretty well.

on my 6.4 and 5.7 swaps that's basically where I run them. (slightly different configuration on thermostat housings)

Shoud I use that bleeder spot or tap a new hole on the side more out of site?

I spoke with a couple people over the phone about this. My plan is to remove the pass side coolant plug in the block and install the sender. This will help keep things clean up front. Thanks for the feedback 😀

That's where I put the sender for my factory temp gauge.

I drilled and tapped the thermostat housing and put my probe in there.. Also used the same area for my fan control. It worked out great

Have you cross referenced temp between your gauge with the probe in the tapped housing, and the ecu temp reading? I was concerned that the gauge wouldn't report temperature until the thermostat opens, or does enough fluid flow through the tiny thermostat bleeder hole to give you an accurate measurement? I was looking to do the same as my sender is too long to use the bleeder screw.

The car isn't running yet. I'm probably going to go with Dakota Digital and just run their Bim module so it will just pull it from the computer.
