I want to put the right steering wheel on my 1971 Barracuda the build sheet that shows the steering wheel as 69 X9 and I am unable to find our what the 69 stands for I know the X9 is black. I have a 1972 steering wheel on it right now 2-spoke sport steering wheel.

Thanks

I would expect a code of 69 to be placed in the S6_ (steering column) box. I have only seen the S81 (standard 3-spoke) and S83 (rim blow) codes in the S8_ box.

Pleased post an image of your broadcast sheet. You've got a special one. :)

Yes I was traveling those same lines too

I am not sure where you saw your "69 X9" codes, but it looks to me like you have the standard three-spoke S81 steering wheel in black. The absence of a code in a box (S8_ in this case) typically means standard issue (or not issued, but hey, the car has gotta have a steering wheel, right?)

If you look at Build line 3 follow to the left first is steering Column then next is Steering Wheel right under this is 69 X9

Thank you for clarifying. Someone else will chime in, but those numbers in the third row, I've seen those change even when both cars had the same black 3-spoke wheel, so what I was saying before, doesn't apply to this third row area.

Some S codes. Maybe the wrong key was hit.

S61 69-71 Tilt/Telescopic Steering Column
S62 69-71 Tilt Steering Column
S74 70-71 Quick Ratio Power Steering
S75 69 Only Quick Ration Manual Steering
S76 69-70 Steering Wheel Horn Ring Full/Fleet
S77 69-71 Power Steering
S78 69-70 Full Horn Ring
S79 69-70 Lower ½ Horn Ring
S81 69-71 Premium Steering Wheel Woodgrained
S81 71 Only Deluxe Padded Steering Wheel (B-Body)
S83 70-71 Rim Blow Woodgrained Steering Wheel (Rim Blow)

Build code "69" under "STEERING WHEEL", Line 3, of the Broadcast sheet denotes the standard black rimmed steering wheel which was the standard wheel on base Barracuda models and Barracuda with the A93 Coupe sales code.

As noted, the accompanying "X9" under "Steering Wheel" denotes black which is the only spoke and cap cover used with the "69" wheel.

No sales coding under the S8- “STRG WHEEL” (SUSPENSION-STEERING) confirms the base standard Barracuda steering wheel.

The following image shows the available steering wheels for the 1971 Barracudas from the 1971 sales literature. The notation at the bottom of the standard wheel describes the black rimmed wheel.

Note that the listing does not show the uncommon horn ring version of the standard steering wheel that was also offered.

The following image shows an actual steering wheel:

This pictured wheel is a 1971 version with a textured rim. The 1970 version for similar models had a smooth rim.

The majority of 71 Cudas with the S81 wheel (3-spoke with woodgrain rim) had 77 TT on Line 3. Your 69 X9 base wheel is probably rarer than the S81 wheel.

That's a pretty good start on the fender tag. For some, a fake tag may be worse than no tag, especially since you have the build sheet. But in the big picture, this being a 318 car, I'm not sure many will care.

Used Snipping Tool in Windows 11 to capture your draft fender tag for Review.
First glance says to remove these items not found on fender tags and correct other items.

Not displayed on fender tags:
C93 Carpeting
J15 Cigar Lighter
J21 Electric Clock
J31 Dual Horns
*J55 Undercoat with Hood Pad (Need to verify this one is on a tag or not)
R13 does not appear to be on your Broadcast Sheet
R32 Dual Rear Seat Speakers
S25 Heavy Duty 1″ Shocks Front & Rear
S77 Power Steering 16:1
W21 Rallye Wheels with Trim Ring

Add or correct on tag:
You need to a letter "U" to the right of the upper GF7 code to represent a USA car.
018222 which is your Vehicle Order Number looks like it might be 018322 on the Broadcast Sheet.

L31 Turn Signal Light Hood / Fender (included with A01 - Light Package but is always on the fender tag)
R32 should be R35 AM/FM Radio (check that you have the AM/FM installed)
26 26" Radiator (part of the H51 Air Conditioning; Look at radiator's stamped part number, if original, and it should be 3443971 which matches your Broadcast Sheet, Line 3 under RAD 71).

Take all of the remaining codes and enter them on the Fender Tag Decoder to get a new draft tag for further review.
I will check my 1971 Barracuda/Cuda fender tag collection to see about the J55 hood pad.

Also,
Your tag would look similar to this 1971 BH23G1B fender tag. It was the closest one I had.
