1970 console 3d printed seat belt hole cap

a cap is a cool idea. when is this used? while there are buckled passengers in the back? Because when the back seat is empty, wouldn't the rear seat belt buckles then be stored in this tiny compartment?

I believe it's used for the driver and front passenger seatbelt buckles.

My solution was putting a 71 center console cover on top of the 70 base. 🙂 The open hole just collected dust and junk otherwise.

I had a 3d printer guy make the loops that go in that hole if you want to put the loops back in to hold the seatbelt.

the consensus at car shows seems to be, the rear buckles go into that "buckle retainer" at the rear of the 1970 console. That's how many seem to arrange their car for the show. The design seems a tad lame, and I'm not surprised they changed it to an ash tray starting the 1971 model year. B-bodies also had "buckle retainers" to secure unused seat belts. Before it became mandatory california law in mid 1980s, many chose to not wear belts, and wanted the belts secure and out of the way. My current ride was purchased in the mid 1980s and the seat belts were flat out missing, presumably to save weight.

I only use my lap belts in all of my 70's, so I put the secondary shoulder belts in the rear console pocket.

The cap is for the end of the shoulder belt that’s stored in the clips over the door windows. The lap portion is stored in the cap at the end of the console that connects to the shoulder belt. Two piece front seat belts, lap and shoulder. That’s for a 1970. Not sure when Mopar changed to a one piece lap and shoulder belt arrangement.
