REDUCED - 1972 Challenger - Nearly Show Room New Unrestored Original

1972 Dodge Challenger with 35,574 miles. Factory applied Y4 gold paint with gold interior. Originally equipped with 318 2bbl engine, and A904 TorqueFlite transmission.

Original number matching parts are included with sale to put this car back to “survivor” status. (Motor, transmission, hood, differential, etc)

History:
This car was purchased from the original owner in January 1979 with 28,880 miles, and has remained in my family since that date. I have personally owned the car since August 1981. (32,906 miles) In July of 1982 (33,162 miles) I installed a used 340 motor with Six Pack, a new TCI 727 transmission, and a 410 differential. This motor was not well suited for street use with 13:1 pistons and an aggressive cam. I drove the car with this motor until August of 1987 (34,417 miles) then the 340 was rebuilt back to stock specs. The car and the current 340 have approximately 1,150 miles of use on them in the past 26 years. The car was not licensed from 1989-2011.

The following has been done since removal from storage in 2011:
Six Pack was professionally setup and tuned by Phil Fish, Connersville, IN. The original center carburetor was rebuilt and blueprinted. The two outboard carbs were junk so new carbs were purchased, disassembled, blueprinted, and reassembled. An electric fuel pump was installed to facilitate emptying carburetors for winter storage and security. Additionally, the battery, radiator and fuel tank were replaced. The original stock rallye wheels were sandblasted and powder coated back to the original color. (The original owner painted them to match body color as seen in some of the pictures) The transmission was rebuilt professionally by Russell Motorsports in Liberty, IN with HD clutches etc and SMR 11.25” Pro Sportsman torque convertor. (The transmission fluid didn’t look “right” and I didn’t want to risk getting stranded somewhere) Added new TTI headers and a full TTI exhaust system. Hi torque mini-starter, new shocks all 4 corners. I have the original window sticker, build sheet, and complete maintenance records. Also included is a set of “old school” aluminum slot wheels & tires purchased by original owner.

Illinois, near St Louis, MO $27,500 OBO

Great looking car! It's too bad the engine compartment was messed with. I would have loved to see the factory engine details.

Amazing! I love to see them in this original condition. Very unusual and neat car.
Best of luck with the sale.

burdar,

Thanks for looking. Yes the engine was transplanted, but as I said in the original post the car goes with all the original parts to put it back the way it was.

I believe the only thing missing is the factory exhaust system. The original owner had put a set of Doug Thorley's on about as soon as he bought it. I do have the original exhaust manifolds.
