CUDA been! I do recall seeing them on 72 an up. But not all.I have often seen this , was it factory , Dunno
I am gonna say no to the hood scoops being color coded. I think this is rumor.I believe it was an option to have the hood scoops and the grille.
Folks modify their cars as they see fit. These cars are 50+ years old, and many things have become urban legend if you will. Many people remember their friends "hemi six-pack" as well....OK, the grille was obviously offered in six different colors per @larry4406 post, but why do three members remember seeing colored hood inserts? Was it another option?
Anybody could take the inserts out and paint them…. I did it myself. I had mine red to match the grill trim….. and then I even painted them red white and blue. Then I completely got rid of them and cut out the areas so they were open scoops. SMH.OK, the grille was obviously offered in six different colors per @larry4406 post, but why do three members remember seeing colored hood inserts? Was it another option?
So I had a ‘72 340 ‘Cuda…. but the Cuda badge on the rear panel was on the right side. This pamphlet shows the badge on the left side….. and obviously all the ones after that were on the left side. Must’ve been some transition point where they switched it. I even asked the all-knowing Mark Worman about it, but of course got no answer.I am gonna say no to the hood scoops being color coded. The color coded grill was a V21 option.

You will not find any information on the scoop insert colors. I've looked for over 40 years.I am gonna say no to the hood scoops being color coded. I think this is rumor.

I remember asking him about the red inserts. He had never had them out. The guy was a purist.Folks modify their cars as they see fit. These cars are 50+ years old, and many things have become urban legend if you will. Many people remember their friends "hemi six-pack" as well....
I painted the outer portion of my '72's hood scoops black cause I liked it. Prior owner(s) painted the front grill color coded (not a V21 car). Doesn't mean it came that way. I have seen many other cars that someone painted the entire scoop black just like mine.

Exactly that’s what I thought too….. except that brochure that got posted for 72 shows it on the left…. Which was why I mentioned it.My '72 also has the 'Cuda badge on the right side of the tail panel.
To my knowledge, the '73-74's have it on the left.
