Trying to figure out the engine in my parts car. The engine numbers off the front pad are HM340R 37300019. On the heads I found casting numbers under the vc 4027569 and down between #5 and 7 there is a 360 (I dont know if there is more) cant see?

sounds like you have a 360.look better on tha front and make sure its not hm360r.the engine size is on the block between 5 & 7 near the end of that line of numbers.they usually say 360-3 or something likat....or if it's a 340 it would be 340-3 or 318-3 for a 318 ect...the 3 at the end could be any digit...my -3 was just an eggsample.hope that helps.

There is no mistaking the 340 on the front of the block but I will get under it tomorrow and see what the casting number is on the side of the block. Based on what I think is the lot/production number of the block (37300019) could this block have a forged crank?

date should be on tha pass side at mount bosses...should say what engine above starter at end of casting number.if its 71 or older dated 340 will most likely be steel crank.
